History

The Heritage Center of Cherokee County is a cultural history museum. Admission is free and we are open on Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. and Sundays from 1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. and by special appointment. The main areas of emphasis are the Caddo Indians, New Birmingham, Texas State Railroad, the Forest Industry, and the Rusk State Hopsital/Prison System.

Groups: The Texas State Railroad welcomes groups of all types and sizes! We offer a unique experience for churches, tour groups, scouts, family or class reunions, organizations, school groups….you name it! Have a group of 20 or more? Want the train to yourself? Want to get married on the train? Let our reservation department fulfill your group request.
